Responsibilities

Strategy

  • The Strategic Transformation Lead will drive the shift within Markets Operations process including Data Ops, Margin, OTC Clearing, Prime, Exchange Traded, Brokerage, Settlements and Confirmations & Lending to optimise, transform and evolve from the current organisational model and ways of working to the target operating model to achieve key FM business outcomes. The role will encompass, technology, process, location strategy and people agenda for strategic initiatives as well as tactical change.
  • The role holder will collaborate with peers in Technology within SCB and beyond, to ensure delivery of the transformation goals for Markets operations. The role holder will be responsible for communication of the transformation strategy across the team and stakeholder community.

A Successful Candidate Is Expected To

  • Deliver sustainable change and transformation across the functions from ideation, planning, development of success metrics, execution and benefit realisation.
  • Engage with colleagues across the 1LoD functions to deliver outcomes
  • Manage the overall investment allocation and benefits tracking across initiatives
  • Take data driven decisions around prioritisation across streams of work
  • Identify resource requirements needed across the Markets ops function to deliver on Transformation initiatives.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder engagement and provide regular updates on Transformation outcomes
  • Support and lead bottom up continuous improvement across functions
  • Partner with the business to understand business priorities and ensure that the transformational roadmap achieves the outcomes of the business with efficiency and scale.
  • Contribute/participate to the Engineering culture of Excellence and Innovation promoted within SCB

Responsibilities / Deliverables

  • Define and articulate the overall transformation strategy for Markets Operations
  • Identify business and cost transformation opportunities that includes traditional drivers (centralization, standardization, process improvement, organization restructuring) as well as digital drivers (intelligent automation, large language model AI and others)
  • Prioritize large initiatives to deliver the biggest value to the business and operations.
  • Articulate the benefits case across competing initiatives using data and key metrics
  • Communicate and bring awareness to the vision, roadmap and status to the FMO Management Team as well as stakeholders across Financial Markets including Trading, Sales and COO Office etc.
  • Define key measures of success against initiatives including performance related metrics
  • Oversea change initiatives and provide thought leadership and direction to resolve challenges and blockers impeding delivery.
  • Direct leadership of one or more squads working on change initiatives
  • Participate in business/segment refinement sessions to provide proposals for investment spend, prioritisation and where trade off decisions need to be taken.
  • Ensure that transformation roadmaps and project plans are maintained and kept up to date.
  • Establish a transformation framework that can be applied by other Product Owners within the function so that data is presented in a consistent and meaningful way

Processes

  • Collaborating and coordinating with all the FM Operations teams to identify potentially new solutions, broadening the adoption of existing solutions
  • Collaborating with the business, operations and technology teams to develop and deliver the transformation roadmap, required new initiatives and alignment to the wider strategy and relevant platforms.
  • Ability to visualise data to tell a compelling narrative and business case which clearly communicates the Why, What, and Impact….
  • Perform value chain and client journey analysis across operations processes
  • Leverage data/analytics to track against business priorities and identify new opportunities.
  • Develop an approach working with the technology and business teams to adopt best practice in large scale change management
  • Ensure participation in global industry forums on topics relevant to the function

People & Talent

  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values
  • Set appropriate tone and expectations and work in collaboration with risk and control partners
  • Play a role in developing talent within the transformation squads and broader function around strategic change
  • Identify and articulate the future capability and capacity needs of the function

Risk Management

  • Responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks across all functional areas of accountability
  • Responsible to ensure that the control environment is continually improved through improved process & systems design, automation and digitisation of manual processes.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing them and ensure you take reasonable steps in managing them
  • Ensure that risks are identified, assessed and managed (including escalation and mitigation) in line with the Banks policies
  • Ensure Residual Risk is reassessed based on any process and control change

Regulatory & Business Conduct

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Lead the FDM Operations transformation squads to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles: Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Financial Markets; Financial Crime Compliance; The Right Environment.
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Key Stakeholders

  • Financial Markets Senior Management Team, Business and Product Heads (in country and Group), Chief Operating Officers (COOs), Operations Functional Heads, Technology Leads
  • Interface with in-country stakeholders to ensure alignment on key priorities, control framework standards and visibility over pipeline regulations and associated changes
  • Act as informed advisor to internal stakeholders across the front-to-back teams with respect digital operational solutions
  • Build and maintain an active industry presence, contributing to and driving industry dialogue across the spectrum of operational digital channels matters, new solutions and industry adoptions

Skills And Experience

  • Experience in delivering global, organizational cost improvement / transformation strategies
  • Knowledge of or experience in broader Financial Markets/ Investment Banking Operations (i.e. Middle Office, Settlements, Confirmations, Risk Management)
  • Ability to influence others and lead team
  • Experience working with senior executives to develop, define and execute cost/growth reduction strategies

Qualifications

  • Experience in delivering global, organizational cost improvement / transformation strategies
  • Experience in data analysis and working with data inputs from multiple sources
  • Experience with developing models using Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, PowerPoint, Visual Basic, or other tools (Tableau)
  • Knowledge of or experience in broader Financial Markets/ Investment Banking Operations (i.e. Middle Office, Settlements, Confirmations, Risk Management)
  • Experience working with senior executives to develop, define and execute cost/growth reduction strategies
  • Ability to work independently, manage small engagements or parts of large engagements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
  • Strong collaboration and teaming skills
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Possess ability to influence others and lead team
  • Fluent in English (Spoken and Written)
  • Excellent PC skills: MS Office suite of applications and Azure Dev ops
