•6+ yrs. experience supporting enterprise class infrastructure.

•VMware ESXi upgrades/deployment/support.

•VMware VCenter upgrades/deployment/support (VCSA as well).

•VMware VUM.

•Cisco UCS, HP and DELL Hardware.

•FC, iSCSI, or NFS storage.

•ESXCLI.

•Familiarity with Veeam/SRM and other tools that plugin to hypervisor layer.

•Distributed Switching (Cisco 1kv or VMWare DVS).

•Understanding of basic Layer2 and Layer 3 networking concepts and topology relevant to hypervisor layer.

Job Description:

Virtualization Engineers play an important and significant role in the day-to-day operations and delivery of IT infrastructure for Secure-24’s enterprise cloud environment. A Virtualization Engineer at Secure-24 is expected to implement to desired standards and support the following elements of an Enterprise caliber IT stack: Compute Hardware including converged and hyper-converged platforms, Hypervisors, and NFS, iSCSI, FC Storage. In addition, Virtualization Engineers are responsible for third party tools for DR and backup that tie into that infrastructure such as Veeam and SRM. They are expected to know from a high level how all components of an enterprise IT stack work together and affect each other, and have specialized knowledge and troubleshooting ability in at least 1 or more layers of the technology stack. Most importantly, Virtualization Engineers must be self-starting, display the aptitude and ambition to learn new technologies, and display a very high level of ownership of projects and environments they are involved in.

Daily Roles and Responsibilities:

•Be able to effectively manage and work a ticketing support queue.

•Troubleshoot and assess performance issues using typical hypervisor management tools providing relevant graphs and communications to customers.

•Effectively respond to critical customer outages related to hardware faults and software bugs within the infrastructure.

•Maintain new and/or existing environments including planning upgrades, tracking EOL dates and documenting inter-dependencies.

•Manage projects self-sufficiently and to 100% completion.

  • Upgrading ESX Clusters.
  • Upgrading/Refreshing Hardware in ESX Clusters.
  • Imaging new ESX Clusters.
  • Provisioning new storage for hypervisors.
  • Deploying backup infrastructure.
  • Deploying/Configuring DR Elements (array-based replication, SRM).
  • Executing datacenter migrations and DR tests.

•Effectively time track and report hours worked.

•Proactively address issues in the environment and provide resolution.

•Work with various vendors on problem tickets and drive vendors to resolution and root cause.

•Provide root cause analysis and log evaluation after outages.

•Create and manage necessary documentation including but not limited to system standards, run-books, etc. Think creatively to provide solutions in the environment.

•Evaluating infrastructure readiness for new customer projects.

•Participate in a weekend on call rotation.
