Who You’ll Work With
You will be part of the McKinsey Technology and Digital group, a team dedicated to addressing the firm’s internal software development needs. Your role as a Senior Search Engineer will involve equipping McKinsey’s business thought leaders with the tools and knowledge required for successful global client engagements. You will work in small, flexible teams using agile methodologies to quickly deliver high-impact solutions. What You’ll Do
As a Senior Search Engineer at McKinsey, you will design, develop, and optimize search functionality, significantly improving the relevance, efficiency, and scalability of search systems. You will focus on the following areas:
Search System Development
Design and implement search architectures, including indexing, ranking, and query parsing components. Build and optimize search pipelines to support both real-time and batch processing environments.
Algorithm Optimization
Develop and fine-tune search algorithms to improve relevance and accuracy. Implement machine learning models and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to enhance query understanding and result ranking.
Generative AI Integration

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with OpenSearch/Elastic Search, including text analyzers, cluster management, Elasticsearch query DSL, and system scaling.
- Ability to design and implement indexing processes for large data volumes.
- Experience in deploying web applications, ingestion and search pipelines, and microservices in cloud environments.
- Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot for building microservices.
- Familiarity with Python programming is a plus.
- Knowledge of semantic search and vector databases.
- Understanding of Solr is beneficial.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
